To the most esteemed Casa de Contratacion and the most pious Crown of Castille

As Governor of San Jun Bautista we are in a tight spot. With the Southwestern Native coalition headed by the Cacique Agueybana and his lieutenant Urayoan, they have managed to push back our forces from the West and have flipped some of our native allies in the East, It is highly possible the natives may bring the fight to us. In any case however, I am confident in my troop’s ability to rout and quash the rebellion. We will be ready to meet them in the field of battle.

Nevertheless we will have to requisition further provisions, materiel, gunpowder and other supplies from Spain to help develop the city of Puerto Rico. I have plans to build a stone and brick fortified keep to serve as government office, treasury, and mansion for my purposes. I can procure the funds for this building but i will require assistance for the crown in building a small barracks and armory for our weapon storage. This will help in establishing the first lines of defense and the beginnings of a proper colonial administration under my watch. Additional settlers are needed both to replenish those who i lost during the war against the natives and to help enforce the Crown’s authority over the island.

This year I will order the development of plantations and cattle ranches similar to the system Santo Domingo is implementing, around the Western coast, a flat and extremely fertile land which is named “Hatillo” as well as the Eastern coast which I named “Fajardo” will begin sending envoys to our still remaining allied caciques to negotiate concessions in exchange for loyalty such as reductions in their tributary obligations. Meanwhile I will send further contingents of my men to wage war against the Caciques of the Southwest in order to end the war in a victory for God and the Crown.
