1 December, 1504

As instructed by the King Vladislaus, the Ban of Belgrade alongside the interim titular Despot of Serbia Ivaniš Berislavić, the nobles of the realm houses Jakšić and others, and the military commanders of the armed forces of Belgrade and Šabac, drafted the orders for the expansion of the defenses of the Serbian realm and Hungarian military frontier.

• The fortress at Šabac will be reinforced, the earthen palisade will be replaced by a stone bulwark wall taller than the prior palisade, with the earthworks moved away from the new bulwark to produce a shallow moat. The corners were to be rounded and manned by falconets. A cistern is to be built and the larder expanded. The Ban ordered a vajd to be elected by Belgrade Šajkaši to be stationed in Šabac.

• In Belgrade, walls are to be reinforced. The construction of a second bulwark wall, with rounded towers and pointed redoubts, is to be built fortifying residents that have settled in the area outside the upper town’s walls. A final, third earthen embankment will be built with lightly reinforced defensive positions facing away from the town. The šajkaši stationed at Belgrade are to be expanded from 34 vessels to 40, with requests to the King Vladislaus to either allot vessels from the Danube Flotilla for this purpose or purchase additional vessels from the shipyards in Croatia.

• Zemun fortress will be reinforced.

• A series of signal fires will be constructed along the southern border of the Ban’s realm, leading to Belgrade to warn of Ottoman advance.
