TIL Basic scanner covers from Sun to Earth

Today I learned that the distance from the Sun to the Earth is 499 light seconds, or almost the range of a basic discovery scanner. So if you use a basic scanner when at a Sun ,you'll know if there is anything as far as Earth would be but no further.http://image.gsfc.nasa.gov/poetry/venus/q89.html Pluto is 39x as far.
