Luna help error - partial upgrade

Hi, so I have had ElementaryOS installed for a while but I am making an effort to use it finally. Problem is, I can't upgrade anything with the update manager.

I get an error about only being able to do a partial upgrade and then when I select that option it brings up an error of: 'An upgrade from luna to precise is not supported with this tool'

1) Should I even worry about upgrades? I really want to upgrade my darktable I installed through the software center but that is the only thing I see as important.

2) Is there a different way to upgrade to the newest ElementaryOS?

I have tried to sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y and only get a few 404 errors. According to the update manager I have over 300 updates.

Any ideas?
