Troubleshooting a patriot

I just bought a patriot from a B&M. I was able to get one hit off of it, now, no matter what I do, I can't get anything but air, and its not burning. It came with a small amount of cotton and wire pre wrapped. My itaste MVP is saying its burning at .7. There's no way I already burnt it out. Someone help!
