Whenever the subject of an affordable North American electric vehicle is discussed we hear about the Chevrolet Bolt EV and the Nissan LEAF EV.
These two models were somewhat on the border of what I would consider "affordable" for many demographics before the whole massive increase in used and new vehicles.
Even with prices normalizing somewhat these two models really don't compare to what BYD Company is producing in the affordable sphere. Or even some European options.
Now there has been a lot of talk about how in 5 to 7 years the prices of EV will drastically be better and that there will be more selection in the used marketplace.
Still we have to be honest that there are brand new very low price ICE models and incredible low price used ICE models. Specifically designed and marketed to these low price arenas.
I have some worry that with the North American auto makers obviously moving into the SUV EV and Truck EV sphere that we may really suffer on the affordability front.
