In my kitchen, 8 have a two gang box that holds a switch that is part of a three way switch system, and an outlet. Two circuits run into the box (and are not connected at the breaker). One circuit runs to the outlet, using the neutral, line, and ground wire. The the orher circut connects to the three way switch with the line wire, the neutral is spliced to to the neutral that feeds the "runner" wires, and the ground is spliced into the ground from the 'runner' wires (don't know if that terminology is correct). That leaves two wires, a red, and a black that are part of the 'runner' wires, that also connect to the three way switch. I can provide info on which lines get power, photos, etc if more detail is needed.
I would like to disconnect the three way switch completely so that I can install a smart dimmer, in place of the other switch in the theee way system, that cannot work on a three way switch without buying an additional 'add on switch'. What wires do I splice, do I cap off any 'unused' wires, is this possible/safe?
Thanks in advance, I know enough about wiring to change out switches and outlets, but this makes me nervous since it seems to involve connecting two wires that both carry 120v, which I have never done.
