I am a third-year apprentice, being groomed to be a foreman (I just found this out via text from the owner of my company)
He doesn't know it, but I tested into IBEW last month scored a 7/9… Interview at end of this month.
I only did it out of obligation to my family. It really just comes down to the money. I have been talking/interviewing the union for the better part of the year now…
My dilemma is that as a non-union electrician I know that when I get out of my California apprenticeship my pay will go from about $50 an hour to $25.
I have heard very vague hints of profit sharing… Bonuses… What have you
Can I get your input on being A non-union forman versus taking the plunge and going union and risking an appointment… But also higher hourly?
