Posting on behalf of my boyfriend. Currently he’s a licensed journeyman in Maryland. We have been thinking of relocating North like NYC or areas very close, not opposed to NJ. I know he doesn’t have to join union but we are thinking of trying since it’s more prevalent in the North. I’ve done some research but wondering how does someone go from non union to union. Do they have to redo their whole apprenticeship? How possible is it to get into any of these unions coming from a diff state? I saw some have residency requirement of two years. I’m hearing NYC union is almost impossible?
