Turning 30 soon and feeling a bit lost and looking to acquire a skill. Can’t decide what path to take, Auto Mechanic Vs Electrician?
Post Body

I’m turning 30 yrs this year and have worked in retail & restaurants since I’ve was 17. My last job was retail sales / loans and was there for 8 yrs but recently quit last year in August due to a toxic work environment & dealing with horrid customers. Since then I’ve done some reflecting and decided I want a career that I can work with my hands as opposed to office / retail environment as I am burnt out with social interactions & low pay. I’ve looked in some trades which seems like the route I’d want to take since college would be take too long & cost way more money which at my age I’m not sure if that would be efficient. My main goal with this career change would be to earn enough money to afford my own place & invest. I considered tech but with my adhd I know I would be missable being stuck to a chair and staring at a screen for 8hr even though the salary is very tempting. Ive been seeing people who have made career changes into these trades and see that the common two things these trades say is that they’re happy to go to work and the pay is great. I want to get into one of these trades but can’t decide. If there’s anybody in these trades please feel free to let me know what you would choose and why, work life balance, job security, and what advice you would give someone to get into these trades. I’m located in Southern California if that helps. Thanks 😊
