Consensus Time: Are Headdresses Okay As A Festival Outfit Piece? Let's Talk About This!
Post Body

Hey guys!

I've been seeing a lot of controversy and argument on whether or not Native American Headdresses are acceptable or even just simply allowed at EDC and other festivals alike and the more I look into it the more I realize how segregated the community is on this matter. Some people say its not allowed, some say it shouldn't be worn because its such a massive nuisance to everyone next to the wearer while dancing, some say its racist and wrong for its propagation of cultural appropriation, and others say that its totally chill and that people should wear it as they please so long as they're not making fun of Native American culture or practices... there doesn't seem to be any middle ground whatsoever. Another confusing part of this whole problem is that people often argue that this is an offensive practice in the eyes of Native Americans as it disrespects their culture, yet Native Americans themselves seem to be just as divided on the issue as some argue in favor of it while others still condemn it. This whole ordeal is just incessantly confusing. I recently saw a few posts such as this one and also this other one which both have comment sections that highlight the ongoing and rather heated debate on the matter.

Personally, I was thinking of wearing a headdress out there myself when I was first thinking of outfit ideas because I think they are absolutely beautiful and I thought it would be awesome to wear such a gorgeous piece but I recently decided against it because of the excessive cost, the likely potential for political arguments that would ensue if someone was offended by it and, most of all, the guaranteed discomfort while trying to dance and get crazy out there... so that option is off the table for me now.

This whole issue is endlessly perplexing to me and I want to get a consensus on the issue. So, my lovely people, lets talk about this: Is it okay to wear a Native American Headdress as a festival garment? If yes (or no), why..?

Please take care to be respectful at all times while discussing this matter as I see the potential it may have to become needlessly hostile. Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect at all times everybody, remember that.
