[US] Can you use an e27 base in the US?

Post Body

I am currently looking at tearing out florescent lights in my bathroom and my home office so I can replace them with standard bulb bases, however I do need to do this as cheap as possible.

Currently I can get E27 bases/bulbs cheaper than the E26, however I have a couple questions:

  1. Would using E27 be violation of building codes and maybe cause issues down the line?

  2. I know the E26s are rated for 110v while the E27s are 220v, but would using E27s in a 110v system potentially cause issues I may not be familiar with?

NOTE:

I am not an electrician, however have before done full home electrical line replacements (aluminium to copper upgrades) under a licensed electrician before and have done various types of component replacements over the years (such as wall outlets, E26 to E26 replacements and so on) so have more than a passing familiarity with things.
