Convert to US adapter

We have a hand held electrical device (think razor or electric toothbrush, but neither). We bought this in the UK so it has a British plug which seems to convert the electricity from 240 VA.C to 14.5 VA.C.
I assume I can’t replace this with a box for (say) a Netscape router. They seem to output DC.
Any suggestions most welcome.
