What to do with souvenirs?

I'm a newbish player (level 16), and the quests reward a lot of unique, leveled gear. Which I'm outgrowing. And which is taking up space in my inventory.

Coming from Morr/Blivi/Rim, I would squirrel this stuff away and use it to decorate my house(s). But I gather that isn't an option in ESO?

I get the impression I'm supposed to break it all down to research traits. Am I missing another option for us sentimental role-play saps?

Corollary: are there any underpowered gear you keep for sentimental reasons or that I should keep for later on? I'm looking at you Oblivion Wrist Irons!
