HS was a school I worked at for five months and I didn’t see the red flags until after I started working.
· They hired four teachers because four teachers quit on the spot.
· There was no curriculum and they expected me to make one even though I told them I’d never made on before because the school I worked for before had its own already. There were also no teaching materials, so we had to make everything. Insane for how much the parents were paying.
· When running a preschool, you’re supposed to have at least two adults in the room. This was never the case. And I had to largest class (16 four-year-old’s). I was always alone and if I asked for help, I was shamed by the staff that were hired to help.
· The lunches were odd. If it was a hot lunch, it was great. If it was a bento the rice was always stale.
· The first week of work was “training”. There was no training. It was a week of us trying to make our teaching materials but having no clue what we needed because we didn’t know the level of our students.
· I was lied to about my students. It turns out none of them were potty trained and none of them had the fine motor skills necessary for writing.
· We weren’t allowed to reprimand students for bad behavior at all. We were told to just talk to the kids. Doesn’t work if the kid doesn’t speak English and the teachers don’t speak Japanese.
· The owner never had the balls to talk to us one on one about any issues. He had to involve everyone even though they had nothing to do with issues.
· I quit two weeks after another teacher quit for similar reasons.
· The owner, his wife, and kids went on a month-long trip to the US to visit his family. After I left I found out that the week-long vacation the teacher were supposed to have in august never happened. He instead did summer school.
