I’ve been a drummer my whole life, but moving into an apartment had made me cast my hobby to wayside as conventionally drums are loud. After living here for a couple years, and doing research into quieter alternatives, I decided on purchasing an Alesis Surge Mesh kit. I live on the third floor of my apartment, so it’s reasonable to assume some noise may travel through the floor to my neighbor below. When my kit first arrived, I assembled it and played a few beats gently to test out my configuration (and this was around 4PM on a weekday), but within 1 minute my neighbor was yelling at me through the floor to quiet down. I immediately stopped, and looked up if anyone else encountered a similar issue and it seems like it’s a fairly common problem for owners of e-kits. My solution has been to spend a few hundred dollars on wall/floor sound proofing and I built a tennis ball riser. I tested the noise with my phone and it doesn’t read above ~65 dB, which is hardly louder than ambient noise. What do you think I should do to mitigate any future grievances with my neighbor? I know I’m not violating any town noise ordinances and I would never plan on playing for an exceeding amount of time or during the late hours of the night. Should I write a note? Speak to my neighbor? Or just play and see what happens? Any advice would be awesome!
