So I've worked in news (affiliate NBC local station) for 10 years now. I'm 30 years old. I've won 3 EMMYs as a Editor in our regional so far.
I want to start editing more movies or TV shows. I don't have any experience editing any films with a director since film school.
We "news editors" mostly cut video to make "air" mentality. I do get creative projects to show off my other combined skills in "storytelling, motion graphics, animation, color correction, and grading." But everything i do is looked over by a "news producer." They aren't creative, but they make sure the information is presented correctly. Also, many of the "news videographers" don't shoot in "high DR" codecs for quick acquisition. Also they never shoot in RAW or in LOG.
I do have experience with editing RAW and LOG with our marketing department's footage shot by freelancers (i think its weird we hire outside for commercial work).
For any who had the same transition, how did you present your work experiences? How do you get out their to look for experience? How do you find other directors and cinematographers to work with?
