Salutation Reddit,
It's been a while, I assure you I am alive and well. I have been fairly busy writing reviews elsewhere and now I have the chance to jump back here and toss something up. I have a few things in store in the coming weeks but to start things off I will be covering something I have been working hard for the last month or so.
I reviewed a couple Smoant items a while back and fortunately, they asked me once again to cover the new Cylon. I loved the Charon and still use the Battlestar RTA daily, so naturally, I was excited to check out the Cylon. I think you will be just as happy with it as I am, it's a pretty nice piece of hardware I am glad to have in my collection.
Without further delay, the Smoant Cylon.
There was a transitional phase from my old phone(with broken camera) to new phone with not broken camera.sorry for the not guud pics

Pacakging
As with all Smoant products, the packaging is fairly standard. Well designed and eye-catching from a distance. The front displays a large tachometer style screen and a picture of the Cylon. Smoant logo decorated on the bottom front and Cylon top front. The box is pretty nice, for a box. It has a gap between the top and bottom, in the world of boxes, it's a bit different! Removing the top reveals the Cylon inside packed in foam. Sitting next to that is the box containing the USB cable. Overall, well presented.
Design,Look and Feel
Right off the bat, I love the look of the Cylon. It's got a very well thought out design and it just look like a quality piece of hardware.Made of zinc alloy, with a hell of a nice finish and so many design details,I almost get a G-Class vibe from this smoant deice. When looking at the mod from the front, both the left and right side of the device have rubber inlays designed to look like leather. It adds a nice classy touch to the Cylon that really set's it apart from an ordinary looking mod. The screen on the Cylon is pretty huge, coming from DNA's and other mods with the basic tiny little screens, the screen on the Cylon is a major win in my books. Flip the device around and you reveal Cylon printed in the center of the device and above that is a little raised sticker, perhaps a logo of sorts especially for the Cylon. Another nice aesthetic touch. The device features exposed screws which along with all the molded accents make the Cylon feel and look that much better. Just below the screen are the up/down buttons and they're pretty stiff. They make a nice audible click when depressed and feel pretty good. This might not be important to some folks but good buttons are worth a couple points in my books, it adds a sense of higher quality over soft, mushy cheap feeling buttons. On the right side of the device is the fire button which again, nice and stiff with an audible click.
The Cylon feels like a big mod in the hands but it's pretty comfortable. The 510 on the Cylon is centered and has a nice looking stainless steel plate to prevent any scratches on the device as well as a nice tight fit with no movements. A 24mm atomizer on the Cylon looks pretty tiny, leaving a bit of space left to the edge of the plate. I found that a 30mm atomizer looked really nice and fitting on the Cylon.
One little detail that I really like about the Cylon is the battery door. It is situated on the bottom of the device, magnet free. It has a catch style locking mechanism. The batteries sit in there nice and tight with no need to worry about rattling battery doors or bad magnets.
The Finer Details
The Smoant Cylon is capable of 218w of power output and 200℉-600℉/100℃-315℃ for temperature control. Powered by dual 18650 batteries and boasting a newly upgraded ANT218 2.0 Chipset, it's a fully loaded device. It's most striking feature by far is the large color screen. 1.3 inches may not seem like much to some, but in the vape world, it's on the bigger side for mods.
As you power the device on, Smoant is displayed across the screen in bold white lettering, bringing you to the home screen. Vibrant colors and a pretty nice background really make the Cylon an attractive unit. There is no shortage of information available on the home screen. Dead center in large, alarm clock style numbering displays the Power/Temp setting. Right above that is the Smoant logo. The top of the screen displays the level of individual cells and in between each little battery indicator is the time, which, thankfully, does not get reset when the batteries are removed. There are other mods out there with clocks on them but the issue is, they reset once you remove the batteries. Sort of annoying, so it is nice to see that that is not the case with the Cylon.
The menus on the Cylon are super simple to navigate, 3 clicks gets you into the menu. Within it you have 4 options which are VW Mode,TC Mode,Settings and wallpaper. That's right, wallpaper. The Cylon comes packed with 6 different wallpapers to choose from, adding another aesthetic win. There are two user interfaces available, the main UI which is the bright colorful main screen you see as you turn it on for the first time. The other screen is the tachometer style display like is on the front of the box. Me personally, I prefer the full color screen. The tach is really cool but I just find the other to be more functional. Note, the wallpapers only work on the full color main screen, not the tach screen.
Within the settings there is an array of different options:Brightness,Time,Display(Main full color screen or tachometer style screen),Timeout,Screensaver(Watch or Wallpaper),Factory Reset.Something that took me a bit to figure out(I never read manuals) was how to back out of the menus. To save some folks some time, just hold down the fire button for a few seconds and it will go back. I was powering off/on the device to get out of the menus for the longest time but by luck figured out that if I held the fire button down it went back.
The ANT218 2.0 chip is the lifeblood of the Cylon. Continuing on from their previous devices, the ANT Chip is right up there with Vaporessos OMNI chip and the VooPoo Gene chip. Purely my opinion. Standard safety features are present, as expected with any mod these days. According to the specs, the Ant Chip is capable of 0.015s near instant firing. With an RDA fitted with dual framed staples, set at 107W,the Cylon hit the mark pretty fast. I am personally a user who prefers wattage mode, I like to just toss whatever atomizer that I have on to a mod, juice it up and fire away. I guess you could way I am fairly simple. For users who prefer a device that has an endless array of options and programmable settings, the Cylon is absolutely packed with features to suit your needs. Temp or power curves? it's all there.
Overall, the Cylon is a beast. I think between the Cylon and the Charon,,the Cylon is by far the better of the two. The attention to detail in the Cylon is amazing. Performance wise, I sort of knew going into it that it was going to be pretty fantastic. With the ANT Chip fueling the Cylon it's a powerhouse. If there was one thing that I could suggest, it would be the ability to add custom wallpapers. The pre loaded ones are nice but perhaps a small software suit for PC that would allow the owner to put custom images of their cats or food or whatever on the main screen.
Final Conclusion
I have not used the Battlestar mod but from the Charon to this, I think the Cylon may be the best mod that Smoant has made yet. It's power capabilities and fantastic design qualities show how dedicated they are to producing a qualiy product. When there are so many companies out there pushing out new products every other day, it's nice to see a company that takes their time designing something before it is introduced to the market. This mod has rapidly become part of my regular rotation. I absolutely love it. If anyone has any questions about the Cylon feel free to DM me and I would be more than glad to answer!
