First off, I would like to say that there are too many reviews out there that are written/recorded only after using a device for a short period of time. In my opinion, most vape gear needs at least a month and sometimes preferably longer before it can be honestly reviewed as it takes time for the best or the worst of it to become apparent. That and of course time for experimenting with what's the best way to build and wick with rebuildables. With that in mind, I present to you my review on the Avocado.
The Avocado looks like a rebuildable tank at first glance, but it's more of an "RDA with a tank section" with essentially a dripper chimney on top. At first this sounded really appealing to me because I've always been happier with drippers and tanks are nice for using on the go when you can't be bothered with dripping often.
In my experience, building on the Avocado is super easy with the Velocity-style posts and the deck is spacious as you would expect from a 24mm RDA. There are 3 configurations for the air intake, the first one being as wide as you can get it, the second one a pin-hole sized hole for both sides and lastly one pin-hole sized hole for a single coil build.
Personally, I've not had many problems with wicking - it'll wick as long as you don't pack the cotton too tight, the part that goes down into the tank, enough to chain vape if you wish it. The problem I've had has been how hot the top cap gets with my preferred coil builds. I usually build around 0.3-0.5 ohm and vape at about 40-50W, and with that setup (with the widest airflow possible), the top cap and the vapor itself gets uncomfortably hot after I chain vape. In this regard I would only recommend the Avocado if you vape with a much weaker wattage than I do. As I'm writing this review I'm vaping with 30W, which is much more managable.
Another thing the Avocado is not good for is using it on the go. The top cap is incredibly easy to remove and I mean that in a bad way. A slight bump to the side of your hand and the top cap will come right off. I've dropped the top cap a few times on the pavement, and it sometimes got loose in my pocket which makes a small mess.
If you're a vaping gear cleaning freak like me who cleans this stuff on a weekly basis, you will absolutely hate the Avocado. The whole thing is disassembleable, however to take it apart you have to begin by unscrewing the post screw on the bottom. Basically it's impossible to clean the inside of the tank properly unless you take out one of the posts, otherwise you can't take it apart. There is a tiny brown plastic insulator between two parts that comes out when you are taking them apart which if you are not paying attention to will be very easy to lose. And while the Avocado comes with many spare O-rings and grub screws as per usual, it does not come with a spare one of these tiny plastic brown insulators. What the hell GeekVape?
Last but not least is the filling of the tank. To fill it, you take the top cap off, and there is a metal section that you rotate to the side to reveal a silicone part with two small holes in it - one to fill it with while the other hole lets the air out. Filling the tank for me personally is very unpleasant but I doubt it would be a problem for the majority of people. I DIY my liquids and use glass bottles with glass pipettes to reuse bottles and produce less waste. However, the pipettes are too large to fit into the whole. So, unless I hold the pipette very accurately a lot of juice ends up directly leaking to the side making a mess. If you use bottles with needle-like ends, this will not be a problem.
To sum things up, I would not recommend the Avocado as the cons outweight the pros considerably. The vapor and flavour production are decent but nothing to write home about. In my opinion, the only reason to get one would be if you really want a dripper like experience while still having a tank, and you prefer to vape around 20-30W. However, considering that it is also not built well to be used on the go, you might as well get something else.
