Hi Guys,
sorry if theres a wiki for this or info somewhere already.
But I just wanted to check with the experts, and wanted peoples experience/help.
It's been a while since I have built an online store though I used to run several and do it for customers through my business but the game seems very different these days...
All the tiny open-source projects that I used to use are now huge companies clearly monetising in whatever way they can (good for them) however It makes me question what is free now and what is not... and when I say free I mean in the "open" and complete ownership way...
So I want to know, what open-source Ecommerce platforms are there out there that are TRULY actually open source, and allow me to 'own' the code.. modify it in whatever way I want etc.
I don't mind purchasing something however I don't want hidden fees, service costs or any kind of limits on what I do with the software... you know what I mean?
once upon a time I would just download a directory with all the php code or whatever in it and that was it.. there were no closed off code pieces in there 'dialing home' or tracking what I did.. or collecting marketing data etc..
So any info around what there is out there, any experience with different platforms etc would be greatly appreciated.
I'm a fairly decent developer and my first thought is to just write my own from scratch as I have before in the past... but I know to keep up with modern web technologies it would take me months now..
