Suggestions on a device (tablet or netbook) to enter data in the field?

Hi all - I'm looking to get a tablet/netbook to enter data.

I was hoping you might provide some insight about a good device for data entry in the field/greenhouse. I have a very busy growing season coming up and a lot of measurements I will need to do.

Any suggestions for a device that you can see in bright light, has good battery life, wont die from dust/water and most importantly, it allows for easy data entry and ID searches in a spreadsheet?
