Thoughts on private sector jobs versus federal jobs? I’m currently a permanent tech with USFWS but I’m not seeing much room for advancement. There’s a lot of high level GS-11 jobs that I don’t qualify for, so I’ve been thinking of going private sector and maybe coming back to federal later? I already have started my federal retirement clock and TSP and I know after 3 years permanent you can come back non competitively. But I’m seeing a lot of interesting private sector jobs! What’s your experience, advice, or input? Thanks!
What grade are you now? There’s a fuck ton of 7/9 Biologist jobs with USFWS open now with ecological services (basically doing Section 7 consultation) that would allow you more upward mobility.

I know there are some open right now but keep checking as more are always flying.
Also i don’t know what you want to do long term but the army corps is always hiring regulatory staff that is usually a ladder from 7 to 11, it’s much more office and desk work but gives a lot of experience eith environmental regulations, consultations etc that you can use if you want to go elsewhere after you milk that ladder, or maybe you’ll like it and stay.
