So in my finished basement I have baseboard heating, which the basement doesn't get used too much at the moment. But in the next 6 months or so when I get it more cleaned up (ex's stuff out), I plan to use it more. At the moment I have an old round style mechanical thermostat. Fist and 2nd floor have hvac, with a thermostat at the top of the steps on the 2nd floor, an old honeywell (hvac has a heatpump and oil water heater backup)
I use my oil water heater for everything from hot water for the tap, to both heating for hvac and the baseboard heat.
One thing I noticed was if I turned my baseboard heat up to 68 during the winter it made it so the hvac didn't need to work as much to heat the first floor..
I'm hoping if I got two ecobees one for the basement and one for the hvac and maybe a sensor on the 1st floor, It would make it more economical.. and adjust both as needed? I'm not sure if this is really intelligent enough for that? and if it's worth it. I'm assuming I'd need a newer ecobee for the hvac but wasn't sure if I could get away with a cheaper one in the basement.
