Short-cycling now that grouping feature is removed?

I've noticed that our A/C might be short cycling. I have a dual-zone system (upstairs downstairs), two Ecobees, and they were connected using the grouping feature. I checked the portal and I'm guess I'm late to the party about how they removed that feature.

So now I think I have two independent thermostats, each controlling the same A/C unit, each with their own idea of how long the cycles are? I have manual staging set on both of them to identical values -- but is this pointless if there are independent thermostats?
