Upgrading from SmartVoice to Premium w/PEK

I currently have the Ecobee5 Smart with Voice and the PEK installed. I'd like to upgrade to the new premium model, but my Central Air handler is virtually inaccessible in a crawl space of my attic, can I just leave the PEK from the voice ecobee attached up there and then wire in the new Premium with new backplate and such on the wall?
