Examining the advantages and disadvantages of dealing with ebola here vs west Africa

Post Body

While our robust medical system and bueracracy have been touted from the beginning (i.e. it only spreads in west Africa due to the abysmal conditions), this first american case has immediately revealed some of the disadvantages we have, even over those places. 1. It appears that this patient came here specifically for better treatment. Baring in mind that there could be almost 200 times the number of global cases by January, could this a place that patients with money will flock to? 2. Patients/contacts who are here are much more mobile, thus contacts could easily be on the other side of the country before identified, making containment much more difficult. 3. Our health system seems very exorbitant in cost, thus patients are reluctant to seek help at the first sign of illness, hoping all along that it's just the flu. 4. Flu season in our winter months seems likely to compound the situation and overwhelm hospitals. Have I missed anything?
