Soldering 18650's with copper wire instead of spot welder
Post Body

I've seen a few examples, most likely before spot welders, where people used copper wire and/or fuse wires to connect to each battery. I plan on building a 14S4P 52v 10AH battery pack using Samsung 25R's. My only questions are, why don't more people go this route? Is there any safety concerns? The wire I'm using is 12 AWG solid core copper wire. It's literally as thick as a coat hanger. I think it should handle the current just fine.

But far more people have access to a hardware store and a soldering iron than most do to a spot welder. A spot welder takes up most of the savings in building your own battery. So why not spend 2 dollars on wire and just solder it? The whole spot welder thing is easy and the correct way to do it. But overrated IMO.

Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!
