So my state has a rebate program which got me into looking at ebikes. I was previously a mountain bike girl. I've gotta say, this bike is lots of fun and super convenient when I just need to run somewhere real quick and don't want to take kids with me or bother with the car. With how little parking there is in some places, taking the ebike just makes sense sometimes. I've had to do some ridiculous things to get stuff to stay in my small bike bag, but a larger bag has been ordered and I'm anxiously awaiting it's arrival!
It was $1100, with $750 back on rebate. I couldn't pass it up!
A few reasons, really. I'd never ridden a step through before and didn't know how it would handle. I actually went to Walmart specifically to grab a step through bike from the rack and ride it around the bike area for a bit, just to get a feel of one before potentially ordering a step thru ebike without ever trying one, haha. They handle a bit different in my opinion. Admittedly, I'm used to my old Kona mountain bike which has more of a lean down position when riding, but I also feel like I have less control of the step through. Like the bar that's missing in order to make it a step through gives you a bit more control since you're almost holding it with your legs while riding. Just takes some getting used to not having that bar there. I've also read that step through frames are overall less durable, so may not last as long. Probably not as much of an issue with ebikes as it is with regular bikes since your battery will probably go long before the frame wears out. But yeah, those were my hesitations. I will say the step through allows a very comfy riding position. Almost more like you're sitting in a car.
Try Facebook marketplace for used ones! Once I started looking I really wanted a trek verve 2 . They're expensive as hell, but used they're only like $1000.
I swear I can't ever find anything to lock my bike to anyway. Always just putting it through the tire and being quick in stores while parking by a window. They are easier to get on and off, but for the longest time I kept hopping over the back rack like an idiot, haha. Now I use it like a proper step through and do appreciate the ease of use.
Oh that sucks. Apparently it's becoming an issue here too, ironically in the town the rebate originated from, since ebikes are using bike trails and causing issues. I wish people would just have some common sense and general respect for others. On ebikes and just overall. Asking too much, apparently.
I'm sure it varies by state, but in my state it was 75% of the cost back, up to $750. So yeah, $750 is the max. I absolutely would have bought a mountain e-bike if it wasn't capped. But unfortunately I'm broke and the cap left me with limited choices, as it also had to be at a local brick and mortar ebike store vs online ordering where I'd have more options and likely for cheaper. Still, I can't complain too much with that deal! Plus the bike is nice, it's just not what I'm used to.
I want to attempt to do doordash or Uber eats on mine once I get a bigger bag! My kids don't want to ride nearly as much as I do, so why not get paid to ride? Only problem is I'm not really in a city, so things may be too far to realistically do more than a couple runs of close by places.
I've never heard of those but definitely will check them out!
The step through comes in so many nicer colors than the step over! There's like 4 or 5 colors and it was a hard choice, haha.

I was so hesitant to get a step through. I've never had one before, but I took my 12 year old with me to help me choose between this and the Ts1, which is like a really slim 36lb road ebike. So my kid is the reason I chose the step through. He liked it and the height restrictions were perfect for him. Sometimes I wonder if this is what it's like to drive a motorcycle 😅 the design is so weird compared to the step over I'm used to, but I don't hate it!
