Egpu question need help!

So currently my setup is a laptop with a 7840u and a 6600xt gpu inside of a Razer core v1. The cpu is great in my desktop but in the egpu im getting really bad performance in certain games and decent performance in others. Iām using an apple thunderbolt 3 cable. Is it the Egpu enclosures fault that the performance is so low? If so what is a cheap alternative that will give me better performance. Any help would be greatly appreciated
