Hi all! I hope this is okay, I didn’t see a rule against it. I’m not looking for diagnosis (especially for such a physical disorder), but I’m not sure if seeing a doctor is worth my while.
I feel like I have a lot that might imply mild dyspraxia, but I’m missing other things…
To make it easier:
- I am autistic and I have ADHD and dyscalculia (all commonly co-occurring, I believe)
- I fall or trip about once a year, especially on stairs
- Looking up while walking is dangerous and risky for me, as I need to keep an eye on the ground and my legs
- I struggle with laces. I can tie them, but often find it easier to use elastic laces or slip into laced shoes.
- Despite having probably a cumulative 10,000 hours in video games and playing many games that use fine-motor skills, I have always been abysmally bad — my reaction time, ability to coordinate my hands, etc… is just terrible, no matter how much I practice
- I have to hold my hands out to the sides to balance on even the most mildly uneven surfaces
On the other hand, I have no problems with handwriting and have the ability to make smooth and clear lines when drawing.
Is it worth getting investigated? What kind of doctor might be able to help? And are there any, like, assistive devices for this lack of balance/motor skills? It’s frustrating being scared of falling especially.
