I missed out on this entry because it came out just as my ps2 passed way on me and I updated to the Xbox 360 instead of ps3. So I finally figured out how this whole emulator business works and I downloaded DW5 on ps2 emulator. Having lots of fun and I would just like to say what I think about it since I have no friends who are into DW. Will mostly be comparing to it’s predecessor but also probably 8 and 7

Right off the bat I love that they fixed that annoying auto lock thing that happened when you attacked in 4.

Bodyguards were cool but I rather have a group of them like in 4 but they had some pretty cool looking ones and I liked how you can switch them out.

I don’t know if I prefer leveling up weapons or finding them although I do like to go back to the 1st or 2nd weapons from time. The move-sets themselves seem to have gotten duller no more grapples less flashy stuff and none of those moves where you jump and hit.

Like the bases and checkpoints it really helps make you feel your fighting a battle. The maps where fine tho I think a few of 4 where better(hulao gate) I miss the duels though wished they kept that.

The designs where cool probably the last time everybody looked awesome, I am not a fan of the direction the design took starting with 6. I still think the costumes from 4 were superior but everybody still looked pretty awesome. Overall I think everything looks a bit gray but maybe it’s just me.

I have mixed feelings about the story mode. On the one hand its much more fleshed out and the although it was a little repetitive the different cutscenes kept interesting enough for me. I have to say however that I prefer kingdom based story mode. I think that 8 does the best at this because it kinda combines 4 and 5’s story mode.

Unrelated but I was a little bit upset after playing this. The reason was DW5 Empires. Which I have played the hell out of on the 360. Like they cut out so much stuff! The bases in the vanilla game have actual crap in them like the supply bases have cooking pits and jars and the attack bases have towers and archers. None of this carried over to empires. Also the 360 version doesn’t have all the costumes for the characters(2 per character) It was bad enough the west didn’t get a 360 release but c’mon they could have at least made empires have as much in it as it could. In retrospect I guess it should have tipped me off to koei’s infamous laziness. Anyway rant over still love 5 empires.

Overall really fun game can wait to finish beating all the stories and then maybe unlocking 4 and 5th weapons
