So this dream started out kind of like the beginning of the game, where you airdrop in, get beat up, rescued, etc. At the point where youâre sent out to replace Spikeâs traps, this is where noticeable differences from the game were apparent. The layout of the Tower was very different; a massive wall surrounded the complex, at least as tall as most buildings in the game. Made of wrought iron and scraps of metal, it did a decent job of keeping zombies out. There was no door, so the only way in or out of the property was climbing over.
Another noticeable difference was the appearance of special zombies. Immediately upon leaving the Tower, a Spitter/Toad was standing on a rooftop, staring at me, stalking me. It didnât attack me outright, just stared at me. Bombers mingled in the streets with as much frequency as normal zombies. Greatly disturbed, I went to fix Spikeâs traps. While fixing a trap, I was drawn for whatever reason to a nearby dock. Upon getting there, I realized the area was not unsimilar to the fishing village near Infamy Bridge, but much more sparse and with only one dock. The dock was loaded with zip lines leading out into the open sea. Kind of a weird place the put zip lines right? What was even more strange was the fact that a screamer baby was standing alone on the dock, facing towards me. It wasnât naked or bald like normal, but it was most assuredly a little girl, with tangled long black hair and wearing a small nightgown.
At this point I shouldâve left it alone knowing how the only purpose little children serve in Dying Light is to scream and attract zombies to you, but for some reason it was like I was playing the game for the first time with no prior knowledge to guide me; for all I knew, this âkidâ could be a survivor and need my help. As I approached, nightfall crept closer with every step. The closer I got to the girl the darker it got. As soon as I got within touching distance the little girl screamed that horrifying scream and I kicked her into the bay in a knee jerk reaction. Thoroughly terrified, I realized finally where I was: alone, at ground zero of a screamerâs location, at night, clear out in the open. I half expected a group of Volatiles to burst onto the scene and tear me to shreds, but no, I got met with something that was somehow worse.
From the dark I could see the silhouette of something running towards me. At first it was one form, then two, four, until an entire horde formed behind. As they drew closer the sounds they made grew louder and louder to the point of deafening; wet slapping noises like someone stomping on mud, a stomach-churning rumbling noise interlaced with feral growls and moans. Occasionally a few clicks and teeth chatter would escape the cacophony, reminiscent of the sound Clickers make in The Last of Us. I aimed my flashlight at the nearest one and the world went slow. This thing was like an anthropomorphic mound of mud and dirt, just covered in viscous, caked mud that flaked off in chunks whenever it moved. It was vaguely humanoid, with a face buried deep within the mud. Itâs eyes somehow were visible through the mud, some of the creatures even had their eyes bulging out of the mud and being their only discernibly human feature. The eyes swiveled crazily with no sense of direction, rolling around in their sockets and carving paths into the mud caked onto their faces. The eyes were blood red, and they were crying.
Terrified, I weighed my options and immediately opted to take a zip line into the sea. Making my way down the line I saw my destination up ahead, a small patch of solid ground that wouldnât even hold two people on it. Landing on the island with the grace of a fish out of water, I stumbled around trying to get my bearings. The water surrounding the island was shallow, barely coming up to my shin. The island was pretty far out into the bay, at least enough to where open water would be expected, so this was a pleasant surprise. I turned my attention back to the mudmen and I figured out why a zip line would be placed where it was; these things move slow in water. They labored to even get a single step up, reaching out with their grubby arms trying to balance themselves. Several of them tripped and were promptly trampled by their brethren, acting as step stools for the horde. They eventually got to me, yes, but I was able to hold my ground.
The entire night I basically played life-and-death tag. I gave the mudmen a wide berth and slowly made circles around the island. Occasionally I overstepped my boundaries and went plummeting into the water, the ground giving way or ending underneath me and opening up into the ocean. Through trial and error I mapped out where the water was shallow and where the ground gave way, all the while being chased by the mudmen freaks.
Eventually morning came and the mudmen lost interest in me. As the sun rose they all looked to the horizon and shambled all, tripping and falling and making their way out of the water. I think Iâve written enough but this dream went on for a while after and got really fucking weird really fast. If you want the rest of the dream or something I can put it in the comments.
TL;DR: Game starts normal, get sidetracked, attacked by screamer child, chased all night by terrifying mudmen zombies.
