Does anyone know who wrote this letter in The Following?

The eighth letter in the collectable screen mentioned something really interesting. It contained the words dying light (roll credits ding) and "Crane gave other false hopes...I didn't go, there was no point whatsoever" and was signed by 'B.'
Who wrote this letter? Any idea at all? And what does he mean by 'I didn't go?'. He didn't go to the countryside with Crane or what? It piqued my interest very much. I will appreciate it if anyone can give me some idea as to what this letter is.
