Post Body

Maybe we can put together some automod !commands to answer common questions and get the mod(s) to add & pin them. You'd type !<something> and automod would reply with canned text.

I feel like I'm saying the same things over and over, and this might reduce the # of posts that go unanswered while also taking some burden off of the regulars.

I'd be happy to organize & crowdsource but I don't want to come up with the copy/writing for all of these.

Or maybe this idea isn't worth pursuing, let me know what you all think!

Ideas:

  • !cotton
    • Info about dye recommendations
    • Note about thread probably not taking dye
    • As always, don't dye anything you can't live without. (pretend this is repeated for every item here)
  • !synthetic
    • Info about dye recommendations
    • Caveats about how well the dye might take, ???
  • !syntheticblend
    • beyond my personal level of experience so ???
  • !incompatiblecolors
    • For "can I go from <dark color> to <lighter or otherwise incompatible color>"
    • "It may not be possible to dye this item the color you desire. Dye is transparent (like watercolor paint), meaning you can generally only go darker and previous dye affects the end color of the next dye attempt. For future searching, it may be helpful to know that this is called overdyeing. You may have luck by using a color remover first (depending on the fabric type)." idk what else to say but I'm probably missing stuff
  • !partialdye
    • For "can I dye X without ruining Y"
    • Answer no
    • Suggest fabric paint
  • !blackdye
    • For "how do I dye this black" or "this black isn't black enough"
    • Caveats about how hard it is to get a true black dye
