Advice On QUITTING. I’m 120 days clean

I have been off DXM for about 120 days WOO! I never thought I could do it I was trapped in a cycle of depression and relapse. Ironically I opened Reddit today thinking I will reply to one comment and I did, But I thought I should make a post out of it because it could be valuable to others.

A few tips for your journey going forward.

  1. ⁠GET RID OF IT ALL: Having anything DXM will tempt you. You might not take the Tylenol cold & sinus because of the additives. But it might give you the urge to run to the store and pick up some robogels. YOU ARE STUCK WITH COUGH DROPS FROM NOW ON.

  2. ⁠WEED HELPS: If you smoke weed. SMOKE IT. Getting stoned at night was one of the best ways to avoid getting high on DXM. Because once you’re stoned it seems like way too much work to get high on DXM.

  3. ⁠STAY SOCIAL AND BUSY: I mean it when socializing is the best way to avoid this drug. By going out and connecting with people you will feel similar waves of euphoria if you find the right people I promise.

  4. ⁠FIND A PASSION PROJECT: Okay that sounds cheesy I know but seriously it helps. If you are motivated by something you will want to spend time working on it. Instead of going to bed thinking about how you could drink some cough syrup instead you’ll be thinking about your project!

  5. ⁠CLEAN YOURSELF UP FOR GODS SAKE: I will be the first to admit I let my hygiene slack when I get into some DXM shenanigans. But cleaning yourself up will help change your headspace. Go get a fresh haircut, experiment with your appearance, Take a deep cleaning shower, Shave your beard (If you have one), groom your body (even the men manscaping goes a long way)

  6. ⁠AVOID TRIGGERS: Eek is this therapy? I know the word “trigger” is a buzz word but they really do exist. I broke up with my girlfriend and only then could I quit DXM. There are things in your life that make you want to escape. Cut them out of it.

  7. ⁠CREATE MEMORIES: One of my favourite parts of DXM was the nostalgia it almost felt like I was creating life long memories that may or may not have existed but the waves of euphoria would feel real. So what’s the easiest way to do that? Be the cringy friend group that actually DOES STUFF! Go to an amusement park, go a fucking wild get lost journey shit show, Go camping, be willing to do ANYTHING when an opportunity presents itself. Living a spontaneous full life will keep you busy, and too preoccupied to get high with DXM. Plus you’re gonna want to remember these moments, Can’t be frying your brain at the same time.

I hope that my tips and experience help you in the adventure my other big tip is. Get off reddit for abit, its so much easier to quit when the thought of getting high isn’t constantly pushed in your face!
