On one blu-ray I bought recently, I found that I was given English menus and a choice of several language subtitles when I used one blu-ray player software. But when I played it with my Japanese PS3 or used the same PC software but changed my computer regional settings to Japan, it didn't give me any of those subtitles choices, it only showed Japanese. And oddly the Japanese subtitles were not visible when using the English player. So I wondered if some blu-rays, particularly foreign language films, can only show certain content depending on your location/settings?
I have recently started collecting blu-rays or my favourite movies. Not only is it a good excuse to upgrade my DVD collection, but I'm also trying to get them all with Japanese subtitles so that my other half can follow them completely too. For any English language film, it's no problem buying the Japanese release which includes Japanese subtitles. But if I want to buy, for example, Pan's Labyrinth. On Amazon Japan it's listed as only having Spanish and Japanese subtitles. Although that's ok, as i've seen the movie enough to know what's going on, I would ideally still like to have the full English subtitles available too.
So, my question really is to anyone that has experience with foreign language blu-rays bought from non-English countries/shops. It's a bit of a specific request I know, but I thought it may be worth a shot in case someone knows.
I know I could just take a chance and buy a film and see for myself, I'm simply asking first before spending money. Apologies for the overly long question, cheers!
