so what am I missing with the event?

im noticing a lot of little things that dont seem to work or are explained well. So with this event, it says to kill 50 sun guardians. Ive ran the smaller stage 7 times now, the larger one 3 times, burning all my energy. But it only says ive killed 2 out of that 50. What am I doing wrong here?
