External Purpose

So we know that the true plans of the Bene Gesserit were to perform centuries upon centuries of selective breeding in humans to create their Kwisatz Haderach. To accomplish this they manipulated politics across the entire imperium for generations, and had their secret training in the voice, Prana/Bindu control, perfect control of their own internal metabolism, and of course the genetic memories.

The thing is, all of this was a secret. And I don’t know if it was ever explicitly stated in the books what exactly the “face” of the Bene Gesserit is. They are deeply intwined into every great house of the Imperium, which for their own goal they are “gathering” genetics of selected bloodlines. But what purpose did they serve the imperium on the surface?

We know that the emperor has a Bene Gesserit truthseer, and assumedly other houses utilized them for this as well. But what exactly else did they do. They always say they “exist to serve”, but how were they claiming to serve?

Internal Purpose

So the goal was to create the Kwisatz Haderach, and put him on the throne. A Bene Gesserit emperor that could see everything, everywhere, all at once, with access to the knowledge and memories of all of human history. That was supposed to be Paul, except they couldn’t control him, and it completely destroyed all of their plans.

But what I’ve never understood is what was their endgame? Obviously a Bene Gesserit pawn on the throne would give them all the power they would need. But they were using the power they had to make their Kwisatz Haderach. If they had succeeded, and they had gotten exactly what they wanted, what was next? Did they just seek power for the sake of power? Were they trying to change the direction of humanity as a whole, and if so, what was that direction?
