Dui with cdl ruining my future
Post Body

I got a dui July of 2019 in my personal vehicle. Left a buddies house one night after watching some ufc and having a few beers. Got pulled over on the highway heading home because I didn't have my blinker on for more than 5 seconds making a lane change. Wasn't nervous when I got pulled over because I felt fine and confident of my driving. Was respectful to the officer. Complied and did everything he asked.. Passed the field sobriety tests but failed the breathalyzer. Spent a few hours in jail until my wife bonded me out. Lost my current driving job at the time and had no idea what to expect. Got an attorney that I hoped would help and fight for me to insure I can continue my career as a truck driver. By the way this is my first and only criminal offense ever. She was useless and didn't fight for me and just went through the motions as it was any other regular dui. Plead guilty to the dui, did my community service, did all my classes, got the blow&go for the year, cdl suspended for a year, and paid all fines. Here I am now the first month of January of a new year and I have yet to be able to find an employer who will hire me. In the process of getting my case dissmissed which might sound great and all but its not. My dui will remain on my mvr record therefore I will still not even be able to find employment through a trucking company. I have applied to over 30 jobs all denying me and telling me I am not eligible until my dui is 5-10 years old. I am 26 soon to be 27 with my first baby girl born last December. I do not have time to wait around for 5-10 years till I can make an actually living for my family. But what options do I have? None is what it seems like. I'm stuck barely making enough for rent and bills working at a retirement center that I hate going to everyday because I know thats not where I should be at this part of my life. The 4 years and 300,000 safe miles i have drove across this country has been for nothing. My reputation as a truck driver is ruined and will be ruined for years. The worst part is my family will suffer financially because of this. This is more of a rant than anything and just letting out my emotions and feelings out. For anyone out there who has a cdl or there career is in driving always and I mean always take a Uber or Lyft even if you feel capable of driving. No matter how many drinks you had. If you do get a dui my biggest advice is fight for it to be lessened down to a reckless and don't stop fighting for that until you get it. Get a lawyer who understands that your career and livelihood is dependent on driving. Overall just avoid putting yourself in a situation where you can get a dui at all cost because it will haunt you and ruin your livelihood like it has mine.
