Rental company wants closed agreement signed 5 months later
Post Body

Hi, Not sure if anyone can help me understand how to proceed here.

I rented a car from Enterprise for around 3/4 months back in July 2023. In this time I accidentally passed a bus with its stop sign out so had to pay a fine, this was paid and settled as far as I knew.

Today I have received an email from Enterprise asking me to sign a closed agreement as they have black points from the fine and their traffic ID has been blocked because of this. They need me to sign the agreement to remove the black points registered on the car during the rental period.

First of all it’s a bit odd they have emailed me 6 months after the fine was settled, asking for a signature on an agreement.

Secondly, I did not have a UAE driving license at the time, I was renting with my UK driving license so I would not have been able to take any black points anyway. Now I’m worried if I sign their agreement they will transfer the black points to my UAE drivers license which I would obviously prefer they didn’t do as I have none and would like it to remain that way.

What are my choices? Can I ignore this agreement they want me to sign given it is about months after my rental ended at this point? I also don’t want to make myself liable for any possible charges since the fine and rental costs were paid in full at the time but I don’t know if someone is trying to pull a fast one as the ‘Total Paid’ amount in the agreement says 0 with a Balance remaining of roughly 8500aed.

Any help on this matter would be great.
