Need to understand conflict of interest from a lawyer’s perspective

Hey folks,

Got a quick question for the lawyers or paralegals on the sub. I’m currently in the midst of a divorce with my wife and wanted to understand the process from a conflict check perspective.

My wife had previously engaged with firm let’s say XYZ in 2019, the first time we did this whole process. Would XYZ now choose not to represent me due to a conflict of interest despite the fact that they are no longer her legal representation and she’s currently pursuing this with another firm? Also, if this is the case would the conflict apply only if she had retained their services for a full case or even if she had paid them to purely consult?

The reason I’m asking is that I have a feeling she’s engaged with a number of firms over the years (yeah it’s a messed up 🎢 I really don’t wanna type more about; if anyone needs context they can go through my post history), and I want to understand how this puts limitations on me in pursuing fair representation. Also is there a statute of limitations that applies to conflict of interest or there’s a good chance I’m stuck with limited options?
