Would really like to cut this wall down to where the counter sits on the opposite side of the image. Maybe put a marble top on to create a little bar.
Would this be difficult for a first timer? Any help is appreciated!
Cut a small hole near the top, take your phone and take a video of inside the wall to make sure there isn't a plumbing vent or wiring in higher than you thought just to be sure. At that point feel free to cut everything down, I would just plan it out accordingly so that where you cut you can cap it with wood, a more durable finish for the top of that ledge vs drywall once its cut down and will have more things set on it regularly. Also by finishing it with some wood cap and trim underneath if you cut and plan accordingly you shouldn't have to do any mud or tape work to finish
Yea that would be a nice contrast, you could look at having the marble waterfall down to the butcher block maybe, depends how it would tie into the existing countertop but yea a nice natural marble would go great with a butcher block top
Yea a little counter extension would be nice. If it were mine at that point I might look into the costs of trying to have the counter matched for your new bar top, that way it looks like it was always there vs an after the fact add on. Extending out for bar stools to fit underneath you'll need a couple corbells to support the counter, try to lay them out as even as you can but make sure they hit studs. They need more than just drywall to support the counter extension once people are leaning on it with extra leverage. Good luck, it is a very straight forward project for a professional that you can DIY something yourself quite easily I'm sure of it
