Replicate sound of a broken cymbal

Post Body

Hey!

I own a pretty bashed up crash AA crash which has a huge crack at the bell which is close to 12 years old now - however I really like the sound of this broken mess of a cymbal. This got me wondering: Is there a way to replicate the sound of a broken cymbal? As in figuring out what exactly creates the sounds in the broken one and putting these "faults" into an entirely new cymbal that is not damaged.

I am not actually looking into buying anything or even trying to fix my old cymbal, I'm just really curious about the process behind it. Thanks! :)

I'm not actually looking into fixing this cymbal or buying a new one that sounds like this one, but I'd be interested in how one would actually try to replicate the sound. I think I remember reading about it some years ago (I think it was Sabian?) where you could send in your broken cymbal and they'd send you a new one with the same sound - but I can't find anything on that anymore.
