Hey y'all,
Audio engineer here, not a drummer - but I'll be working with a band and I want to dial in a certain drum sound for them.
I'm sure there's some studio magic at hand. The band I'm recording really admires Crypta, a really sick metal band. They don't have a super typical metal drum sound, and if anything, the kit sounds smaller but very clear. Love the way the snare cuts, and the kick is clear but not obnoxious like a lot of modern metal.
I want to get as much of the sound right at the source - specifically as close to this reference track as possible: https://youtu.be/xqRfV-mMyUo?si=AEv2jyExljDoOvLp
(Mod approved the link - thank you!)
Any advice on tuning the kit as close to that as possible? Also open to any general advice as to getting that sound at the source as close as possible.
Thanks in advance!
