What’s it like drumming in a wind orchestra?

Post Body

Thinking of joining my friend who plays flute. Apparently there isn’t a permanent drummer currently so I’m thinking of joining. What would this mean? What drums or types of drums are used in these orchestras?

Comments

I’ve played in an orchestra before. As mentioned, you may be asked to play a ton of different instruments that are not similar. Timpani usually goes to the most accomplished percussionist. There’s vibraphone, bells, xylophone, marimba, etc in keyboards. I’ve also played bass drum, snare, triangle, crash cymbals, chimes, wind chimes, brake drum, gong, wood block, finger cymbals, vibraslap, and other weirdness.
