So, after watching the corps at BA, I have a question:
Since some, or all, or many design teams somewhere down the line decided that voice overs/singing/dancing enhanced the GE of a show, has that created artificial judging criteria for scores?
Like, let's say that BD has capitalized on these elements, having afforded themselves the best teachers of dance, etc, and a design team who know how to best utilize these elements that weren't even a part of DCI at points in the past - does this mean that all corps who hope to compete need have these elements as well, lest they forfeit any hopes for a top placement?
It just seems like an artificial standard has been set, and any deviation from of absence of these elements is considered "bad GE." This doesn't seem like evolution, but 1999 DCI would not win against 2022 DCI, even if performance level in all other aspects were the same.
Like, the movie Mean Girls: "On Wednesdays, we wear pink!" Ie, do these things we have decided on, or be judged down to oblivion!
