If you don’t already know, DCI has partnered with Varsity Performing Arts to bring SoundSport a scholastic season. While this sounds good on paper, Varsity is known in cheerleading circuits for monopolizing, buying up independent gear companies and making cheerleading much harder to participate in.
If this practice is taken to drum corps, it could make drum corps even less accessible as uniform, horn, props, and guard equipment companies could all be bought up and sell their merchandise at higher levels. It also potentially puts WGI at risk, as it may create competition and pull membership from indoor groups.
My question is: what can we do to organize and create pushback? For example: petitions, letters to DCI execs, etc.
