New driver struggling
Post Body

I passed my driving test just over two weeks ago and bought my first car last Monday, a 2009 Renault Clio. I learnt in a diesel and could drive it very well but I could barely drive my new car home, I stalled countless times and couldn't find the biting point (it's petrol). Since then I've driven it every night but only at 10pm to the local shop and around the car park for 10 mins. I even planned a slightly longer route (still only 5 mins each way) using Google maps to make sure it was flat.

I went out very early this morning to drive it on some different roads but still don't feel in control of it. I have to concentrate so hard on driving that I'm worried I'll make silly mistakes in judgement. I can't imagine going out in traffic or coping with other drivers on the road, or being able to edge forward at junctions with an incline.

I'm worried part of the issue is the car, I struggle to put it in gear quite often to the extent I think it might not be my fault (do some cars take more effort to slide into gear?), and it seems to struggle getting up to 30mph and then just sounds "not-smooth" if that's makes any sense?

I guess I can't figure out if it's just a matter of me getting used to a different and older car or if I discuss it with the dealer, or if I should get it checked by a mechanic. Any suggestions welcome, because at the minute I feel like selling the thing and giving up?
