This happened years ago but it still gives me anxiety whenever I see a turning lane. Are you supposed to put your turn signal on in a left hand turning lane?
Here's the full story... I was driving on a twisty turny road. I was going about the speed limit when a cop pulled out behind me and started following me. So I put on cruise control for the exact speed limit cuz I didn't wanna get pulled over for doing 2mph over the speed limit or something weird like that. The cop follows me all the way to town and I get into the left hand turning lane, put my turning signal on and whoop whoop lights in my rear view mirror. The officer told me that I was driving suspiciously for "going the speed limit on a road known for speeding" and that having my turn signal on in the turning lane was "redundant". The officer searched my car (didn't find nothing cuz I'm a law abiding citizen) and wrote me a ticket for "improper signaling". To this day I still get anxiety about whether or not I should use my turning signal in a turning lane. My solution is that I will use it if I'm the last or first car but I turn it off if I'm the middle car. In the years since this happened I've never gotten pulled over for NOT using my turn signal in the turning lane... is that backwards or am I the crazy one here?
I drive a manual car, and my car before my current one was also a manual.
To anyone not in the know, you can āhill holdā where on an incline you can keep a car stationary by manipulating the clutch and the accelerator.
Ergo, your brake lights arenāt activated.
I was in traffic, stopped at a light on a small hill. Iām hill holding my car and a cop pulls up behind me.
Light turns green, I take off and the cop immediately pulls me over.
As heās walking to my car he has me press my brakes, then starts grilling me on where my car was inspected. I was confused and asked for clarification.
He claimed my car appeared to have an intermittent electrical issue because āMy brake lights werenāt on at the signal.ā
I ended up explaining to this guy that the car was a manual and what hill holding was. He kept going āThat means nothing to me, that means nothing to me.ā
I finally asked if heād driven a manual and he said no.
I gave him my information and he kept me there for an hour. Iām guessing to call around and figure out what was going on with my car?
I didnāt get a ticket, just a curt nod and āhave a nice dayā when he finally reappeared
