Spoilers for Battleground.

So at the end of Battleground, we find out Justine .

.

.

.

was infected with Nemesis, and had been since starting to serve Lara, which brings the arranged marriage between Lara and Harry (potentially Mab herself) into potentially dangerous waters. However, I also remember several times Thomas touches Justine and it hurts him, even AFTER nemesis infected her. We know Nemesis alters the nature of things to act against themselves, so what was hurting him? I have three theories, one is Thomas' love for Justine was enough to do the trick, two is Justine is still in her body (Lea was able to resist it for a while in Arctis Tor before it overrode her, implying Nemesis doesn't consume personalities so much as overshadow them), just unable to do anything, three is the nature of nemesis. Mab is able to stand up to Ethniu's weaponized hate not by using love (titania), but because she embodies/uses cold logic. Nemesis could be doing something similar, true love is supposed to harm White Court vamps who feed on lust, what if it could twist that around while being in Justine so it's complete lack of love and use of logic harm's him instead? Although it is interesting looking at Justine's actions in earlier books, I just read Backup and I'm not certain why it didn't try to warn the Stygian Sister when Lara was moving against it. Also, I'm not entirely clear why N didn't infect Thomas, or why it couldn't. Thoughts?
